Key Funding Priorities for the School Of Public Health
Unrestricted Giving
An important source of funds for schools is unrestricted
funds. This type of support is undesignated and administered
by the Dean or by the designated Department Chair. When
you make a gift of unrestricted funds to the Maryland
Fund for Excellence (commonly referred to as the annual
fund) you provide the school with the most flexible
of funds, which are used to support student initiatives
and programs on an ongoing basis.
The Dean's Fund
Similar to unrestricted giving, contributions to the
Dean's Fund provide the Dean with discretionary dollars,
which are administered for the School. The Dean may
use these unrestricted funds to initiate new programs,
fund student projects and other such activities, support
equipment and laboratory upgrades, and other unforeseen
student needs – supporting the School ’s
mission of achieving excellence. By making a gift to
the Dean’s Fund through the Maryland Fund for
Excellence, you are assured that your gift is being
used to support the immediate and vital needs of the
School of Public Health.
The Health and Society Visiting
Professorship
A gift to this fund will allow the School of Public Health to establish and support a one-year
residency at the School for a Distinguished Scientist
in a discipline relevant to the mission of the School.
This Visiting Professor will focus on (1) creating and
enabling sustained interdisciplinary research among
the units in the School and throughout the University;
(2) mentoring faculty and students; and, (3) helping
to ensure continued excellence in research.
Support
for Students – Scholarships
Scholarships play an important role in our attracting
and enrolling the most talented students. Today, when
making college decisions, students and their parents
consider the availability of a high quality education
and the amount of financial assistance available to
them. To remain competitive with other prestigious institutions,
the School of Public Health must maintain
and establish new scholarships for both undergraduate
and graduate students.
There are two ways to support student scholarships: (1) Make a contribution to an already existing fund; (2) Personalize your gift by creating a scholarship fund.
Follow this link to examine the existing funds within the school and its Departments that provide opportunities to support students.
If you wish to personalize the establishment of a scholarship award to meet your individual philanthropic objectives you may consider creating a Named Scholarship, which can be made possible through a $50,000 minimum endowment.
Please 'Contact Us' for a complete list of current scholarships you may choose to support or to establish a new scholarship.
Support
for Faculty
One of the top priorities at the School and its Departments
is to attract, hire and retain faculty who are at the
forefront in their respective fields. You can support
this effort by providing the funding to name a department
chair, professorship and/or assistant professorship.
This support greatly enables our ability to attract
distinguished academics, emerging faculty members and
successful faculty leaders.

A Program or Initiative Opportunity Chair is made possible through a $2 million dollar minimum endowment. A Professorship is made possible through a $1 million dollar minimum endowment. An Assistant Professorship is made possible through a $500,000 dollar minimum endowment. |
Research
As
part of a leading research university, the School of Public Health must ensure that its students
and faculty members can conduct research that leads
to new discoveries and breakthroughs. Funding support
guarantees that the financial resources will be available
for cutting-edge research and further discoveries. One
such fund available for your support is:

| The
Stuart K. Wilson, M.D. Memorial Fund The purpose of the fund is for research in education on the aging of the mind. |

There are several ways in which to establish this level of support consistent with your own philantropic needs. Please 'Contact Us' for a confidential discussion about how to best fund these faculty and research initiatives.
