Opportunities to Connect with Students
- Intern for a Day (IFAD): Host a student for a one day job shadowing opportunity to expose them to your organization and career field. In the 2015-2016 academic year, 800 students were placed with 400+ hosts in a wide variety of industries. Email Erica Ely at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have additional questions and to be alerted when the Fall 2017 host registration opens.
- Career Shuttles and Site Visits: We are always looking for interesting sites to bring a 20-30 students to visit. During these tours, the host employer typically arranges a tour and opportunities to hear firsthand from current employees, including interns, about their roles.
Serve on a Panel
Assist students in career exploration by representing your industry on a panel of professionals. These popular events provide students with insight into field trends and culture, how to break into an industry and what skills are necessary to be successful. There are two types of panels:
- Careers In: These career specific panels are open to students of all majors across campus. Some examples of panels held in the past include, Careers in Health, Wellness and Fitness and Careers in Health Communication & Public Policy.
- Classroom Panel: These panels are held at the request of an instructor. They may be looking to promote careers in epidemiology, research, program planning and more.
Serve as a Mentor
UMD Alumni Advisor Network: Provide young professionals mentorship, coaching and advice all online or by phone. Participate in a mock interview, critique resumes or have a conversation about your industry according to your schedule. We are currently looking for more advisors in the field of public health. To sign up visit, Terrapins Connect.
