Advantages of the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area

Jessica Blake
“…many benefits to attending a large university…among a large and diverse population [with] more opportunities to learn and gain valuable experience [from] different perspectives.

Carla Hodge
“…I appreciate the diversity and strength of [UMCP’s] academic community. Having experienced UMCP as an undergraduate, I am well aware that this campus is full of diversity that largely contributes to the overall learning experience, and I would love to be able to study here again.”

Teaniese Latham
“I am interested in the University of Maryland’s [Public and Community Health program] because of its strong research background and history of community involvement.

Amy Patrick
The location of UMCP offers a wide variety of both public and private institutions, an atmosphere or urban and rural settings and a community rich in both culture and diversity which would allow me the greatest opportunity for education excellence in the field of public health.”

Qiu Yue
“[UMCP] is famous for its outstanding scholars, its high quality of education and world class research facilities…. In addition, [the] University is an international one so that I have the chance to exchange with people from diverse backgrounds.”

The University of Maryland is . . . a Carnegie Research-I University . . . a member of the Association of American Universities . . . the Flagship Campus of the University of Maryland System . . . a Division I NCAA Athletic Competitor (and NCAA Champion in 2001) . . . Leading the way to the future.

Rain Van Den Berg
The UMCP student population of 34,000 makes a university community that is big enough to offer a myriad of resources, yet small enough that the individual is not lost in the crowd. Graduate students make up about 8,000 of the overall student population, so as a graduate-level student, you will find a large peer group at UMCP. Over 300 student organizations at UMCP covering a wide array of interest areas provide opportunities to make connections and get involved.

UMCP is a member of the Consortium of Universities. With universities such as George Washington U, Georgetown U, John Hopkins and American U in the area, students can attend a more affordable campus while benefiting from more class offerings, exciting research partnerships and library resources.
