On April 26, the School of Public Health is participating in Maryland Day 2014, a campus-wide, family-friendly event with over 400 interactive exhibits, workshops, and live performances. More information is available at marylandday.umd.edu/. In one of this year's activities, the Maryland Center for Health Equity (M-CHE), in collaboration with the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, will recruit 1,400 participants to break the Guinness World Record of the largest hand drum ensemble. The record attempt is based on the current largest hand drum ensemble of 1,331 participants playing dolu drums at an event in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India on May 6, 2012. The drum circle will take place from 12:00 to 3:00 pm at Byrd Stadium. Other SPH highlights include an Interactive Health Fair organized by the Department of Behavioral and Community Health, HIV testing from the Prevention Research Center, and yoga sessions from the Department of Kinesiology. The exhibits and events listed below take place throughout the day from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm unless otherwise indicated. Cole Student Activities Building
The SPH class of 2014 spring commencement will begin at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014 in the Cole Student Activities Building. The main campus commencement ceremony will take place earlier that day at 10 a.m. in the Comcast Center. The School of Public Health is honored to host Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as the Spring 2014 Commencement speaker.
