University of Maryland Retirees Association

Continuing Connections with the University and with Each Other . . .

Purpose

The goal of the University of Maryland Retirees Association is to foster an enduring, positive connection between retired faculty and staff and the University of Maryland by providing on-going access to university resources, cultural and social events and interesting ways to stay involved with the University and colleagues.

  • E-mail newsletter to keep you informed of UMRA, UMD and community program.
  • Lifetime membership in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Maryland (OLLI UMD) and discount on courses.
  • Student ticket rate at Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center with OLLI UMD I.D.
  • Discount rate at the Campus Recreation Center with OLLI UMD I.D.
  • UMD I.D. card for access to University libraries.
  • Invitations to programs of UMD Dept. of Health Services Administration, Gliner Center for Humor Communication ad Health, and School of Public Health
  • Formal and informal opportunities to network with colleagues and friends.

 

A Sample of the Variety of Programs Offered to UMRA Members

The UMD Retirees Association offers you a wide range of opportunities to help make your retirement years productive and keep you connected to the University.   Participation in these activities will involve you in meaningful ways with other University retirees and current faculty, staff and students.

2001-2002

Professor Russell Wermer, Robert H. Smith of Business, UMRA Luncheon Series at the UMD golf course clubhouse, The History Of Stock And Bond Investments In The United States and What Can Happen In The Future!

UMRA Exhibit at Maryland Day.

2002-2003

Musical Theatre Showcase presenting an evening of contemporary songs from various theatrical productions at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center preceded by dinner.

Private tour for UMRA of the Comcast Center including a walk on center court, visiting private suites and exploring the state-of-the-art television broadcast center.

Dr. Richard Berg, Physics is Phun, a demonstration at the UMRA Luncheon Series at the UMD golf course clubhouse.

2003-2004

David C. Driskell, Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Department of Art.  UMRA Lecture Series.

Private guided tour for UMRA of Historic Rooms and Chambers in the Maryland State House and the Government House, the official residence for Maryland governors and their families for over a century.

Coach Gary Williams, Basketball at UMD, UMRA Luncheon Series at the UMD golf course clubhouse,

2004-2005

William E. Kirwan, PhD, Chancellor of the University System of Maryland. Reflections on a Career in Higher Education. UMRA Luncheon Series at the golf course clubhouse,

Nobel Laureate, Professor Thomas C. Schilling, PhD, UMRA luncheon in his honor, UMD golf course clubhouse.

2005-2006

Treasures of the University and the Community:  private guided tours for UMRA of Riversdale Mansion and the Anacostia Watershed Society.

Coffee and Conversation with University of Maryland Deans.

2007-2008

Behind the Performances at the Clarice Smith Center for the Performing Arts:  Theatre Production Urinetown Musical and Days of Stars, Moon and Dreams for the UMRA.
Treasures of the University and the Community:  private guided tour, Hidden Gems of the Hornbake Library, conducted by Ann Turkos, University Archivist.

Humor in Everyday Life, an interactive workshop presented by Mr. Art Gliner of the Gliner Center for Humor Communication and Health

Many other UMRA programs to be announced.

 

Membership Information

Individual - $30.00 (Includes $25 lifetime membership in Osher Lifelong Learning Institute).

Couple - $45.00 (Includes two $25 lifetime memberships in Osher Lifelong Learning Institute).
