This is the first of the The Herschel S. Horowitz Center for Health Literacy Speaker Series. Cathy Meade, Ph.D., Professor,
Department of Interdisciplinary Oncology addresses the question, "How to make a health literate America?".
The presentation hilights literacy as used in current health programs and in community-based programs. We need to investigate
how health disparities are propagated by low health literacy skills which allow people to be susceptible to health inequities.
What is literacy? It can be simply understanding the instruction on a package.
We need to determine which tools are most important to gauge literacy.
