Deliya Banda Wesley, PhD ’11, was appointed last month to the newly created position of senior director of health equity at Mathematica. The company works with healthcare stakeholders in the public and private sectors to adapt health information technologies to better address the needs of underserved communities. Dr. Wesley will lead the development of a robust health equity practice and a diverse portfolio of government and philanthropic clients.

Wesley received her doctoral degree from the School of Public Health’s Department of Behavioral and Community Health. She brings to her new role more than a decade of experience in research, evaluation, and project leadership. Throughout her career, she has focused on determinants of health decision making and the uptake of health information in diverse populations. She has also developed and evaluated successful health communication tools to enable and improve decision making in marginalized groups.  Her research interests center around factors that influence how racial and ethnic minorities use healthcare services. She recently served as the founding scientific director of the MedStar Health Research Institute’s Center for Health Equity Research and is an adjunct assistant professor at Georgetown University Medical Center.

In her role at Mathematica, Wesley will lead and develop the company’s health equity practice. She looks forward to “[driving] equitable approaches in health policy research and evaluation.”
