School of Public Health Dean Boris Lushniak recently traveled to Kyiv, Ukraine to participate in an international health care summit

Lushniak, whose parents are from Ukraine, has visited the country before, but this trip was his first since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began in 2022.

The three-day summit included physicians and non-governmental health care leaders from the United States, Ukraine and western European countries. During the meeting, participants discussed trends in Ukranian health care, public health and, specifically, public health issues that occur during times of war.

Sheilah Kast, host of WYPR “On the Record,” recently spoke with Dr. Lushniak about the summit, the mood in the country’s capital and the three things he heard most from residents.
